As we sit here in anticipation of an election that will change our history for generations to come, I feel both excited and afraid of what could happen.
The divisiveness of our country, the fear of voter suppression and possible violence sits heavily on my mind, as I’m sure it does yours.
But no matter the outcome, our work is critical for the future as well. Our TAKE 10 model has been successful in training trainers to prepare new volunteers to reach many new voters. As you read this, they are working on getting out the vote, as well as preparing for dealing with voter suppression, voter protection, dealing with violence and providing PPE.
We are also preparing leaders to plan for long lines at the polling places by providing voters food, entertainment and places to rest. As Michelle Obama told us, “We have got to grab our comfortable shoes, put on our masks, pack a brown bag dinner and maybe breakfast too, because we’ve got to be willing to stand in line all night if we have to.”
After the election, our work continues. We will be working with leaders to ensure their volunteers continue to be engaged. We will celebrate victories and hold elected officials accountable around issues affecting them in the coming year. And, because 2022 is closer than you think, we will get ready for the next mid-term elections.
Please join us in preparing leaders for the most important election of our lifetimes. An extra gift [link to Act Blue] to Spirit in Action at this time will help groups like Kinston Teens, [link to Mighty Cause] young people who have the will and ability to change a community, and change the world. Or AMEXCAN, promoting community participation for the Latino community in North Carolina.
As we count down toward November 3rd and beyond, your gift is vital.
